Miri turns one!

Miri turned one on November 18th and we can't quite believe it!! Pictures of her party soon to come.

Surprise!

Well, we have a little surprise. Tiny Heiny 2 is on the way. Due to appear on or about May 31st of 2011. Miri was very excited at the doctor's appointment, she was a hit with the nurses and waved at the ultrasound picture when the baby came up on screen. She may not know what having a little brother or sister means yet, but I bet she will be so happy once he/she is here.

Can you tell we are picture addicts?

We tried spaghetti for the first time, it was a definite success, though very messy.

Ready to watch football with Daddy.

One of her b-day presents came in this box with lots of packing peanuts. She thought the peanuts were a great gift, but couldn't figure out why we wouldn't let her eat them.

Just like Daddy.

She had a really great day last time we went to take pictures, we could only afford the ones I put up last time, but grandparents couldn't resist the cuteness and got several more.

The open hands are so Miri!

What a grin!

I never thought we'd get a happy picture on her belly, but the photographer was really great.

Seconds later she tried to eat a flower; typical.

This was Dustin's favorite, she knows how to pout doesn't she?

Too Cute!

A few quick pictures

We had pictures taken for several Grandparent's birthdays and I just had to share them here. Miri was having an "on" day and kept posing for the photographer. There were about 10 photos I wanted, but I settled on these.

Nana and Papa vist Miri

Nana and Papa came to visit for the Labor day weekend and Miri had a wonderful time with them. She loved cuddling with Nana and especially loved that Papa let her take off his glasses all the time- she is a big fan of glasses these days. And of course we couldn't resist taking a few (hundred) pictures.

Miri can be a little bit of a ham, ans seen above, she loves having her picture taken, but doesn't always sit still for it. Fortunately, Papa has a great camera that can keep up with her!

Miri loves books lately, of course her favorite activity to do with books is still eat them, but at least she looks at the pictures from one book while chewing on another.

Nana and Papa brought Miri a little present when they came- a car! Of course it is red and zippy and Miri loves going to check the mail in it. She doesn't like to drive though, just enjoy the ride, and of course she wants to carry some of the mail back home.

Miri may be at her cutest when in the bath (and that is saying something!) She coos, laughs, and in general has a great time. This spoon is one of her favorite bath toys, she always gets the right end in her mouth (though not always right side up) and often leaves it there hands free for several minutes. It kind of makes her look like Popeye.

Looks like she thinks she's getting away with something doesn't it? I love the little curls above her ears.

Miri loves checking herself our in the mirror, and the cookie monster towel is definitely her silliest towel.

Miri loved playing with both Papa and Nana. She was full of giggles in this picture.

You might notice there is something odd on the front of Miri's diaper- it is a big piece of velcro we put over the tabs when she is running around in just a diaper. She has learned to take off her diaper and since she loves to be naked she does it as often as she can. This "locks" the diaper closed. She has even managed to open her diaper underneath her clothes a couple of times, I guess this means we'll have to potty train early!

Friends, Hair and Standing!

Miri is almost 10 months old now and getting even more personality. I watch another little girl (Reagan, below) three days a week and they are so cute together. When that morning knock comes to the door, Miri starts smiling and cooing excitedly. As soon as Reagan comes in, she starts laughing and clapping, it is so cute! Reagan likes her a lot too; the other day, when Miri was waking up from her afternoon nap, Reagan heard her making some noises in her crib. She got really excited and ran to the hallway, pointing and looking and me and making questioning sound, as if to say, "She's awake! Aren't we going to go get her?!?) They love to play together and share very well. In fact, I have to keep an eye on them or else they will share their sippy cups! Reagan is about 5 months older than Miri.
I also watch a little boy one day a week named Issac, though everyone calls him Ike. He is a sweet boy and Miri enjoys hanging out with him also. He crawls everywhere and I have to watch him sometimes when he gets going, he is about 23 lb (even though he is a month younger than Miri) and can knock Miri (15 1/2 lb) over when they are playing if he isn't careful. Miri, of course, takes this as highly offensive. Fortunately, she's pretty easy to calm down.

Miri is finally getting some hair! still not enough for a barrette, but at least the velcro barrettes stay in now. She often has a curly mohawk as seen above and below. I really do try to brush it, but nothing seems to help. It's pretty cute even so, and I'm delighted with the thought that she is going to have curly hair. It looks like it is going to be dark blond and sometimes I catch a hint of red in there also; cute!

I couldn't resist taking the picture below. She is sleeping off a fun day at church and pulled her lovey over her head after I took this picture. I think we have a hard to wake up kid in our future. I love the chunk on those little thighs! She is still very small for her size (height 40ith percentile and weight 3rd percentile) but she sure looks healthy to me. Especially since she generally enjoys eating, especially if she gets to feed herself. She is a cheese eating machine and can put away a good sized pile of shredded cheese after a full meal (though it takes her forever too pick it all up one little piece at a time). She also loves to eat these corn puff things we found. I'm so happy to have found an alternative the the traditional puffs, which contain rice flour and soy and caused an impressive amount of vomiting. I have decided I don't even care which thing is the allergen, we aren't going to eat either until she is old enough to throw up in the toilet, and maybe not even then.

She still doesn't crawl, but she will scoot on her bottom if there is something she really wants. She also loves to stand (supported) the last week or two and walk with help. I think she will be walking before her 1st birthday. I guess we better finish child proofing!

Miri is almost 9 months old now. She has started waving and has gotten even more personable. She still isn't crawling, but she really loves to stand and can take a few supported steps if she is in the mood. She has started to eating three solid meals a day and sleeping longer and longer stretches at night; she made it 11 hours last night! She also has started getting opinionated (or more opinionated) about things. I gave her a lovey (she has several) the other night, and it was not her favorite one. She picked it up, looked at it for a second, then threw it against the wall of the crib and screamed. She stopped screaming, stuck her thumb in her mouth, and went right to sleep after that.
Miri has started enjoying toys a lot more, especially stuffed animals. She loves balls and anything that is fun to chew on. Still no teeth though. She still loves peaches best, but likes everything I try to feed her.

She loves playing with Reagan and Ike (the two babies that I babysit during the week). They get along great, at least until she decides to pull Reagan's hair. She loves hair and jewelry of all kinds. Reagan loves Miri's hair bows and tries to steal them, then put them back on. Very cute!

Cousins Part 4 (Pictures!)

While Matthew and Audrey were visiting we went to take pictures. Miri was not in a good mood! We managed to get a few good shots, though we only managed to get those as long as she was touching me and standing. I think the picture above is my favorite of Miri so far- that little pouty mouth is so her!
Sweet kiddies. Miri wanted Audrey's hair bow so bad.
Finally a little smile!
Miri sure has sweet cousins.

Cousins Part 3 (the Alligator Farm)

Matthew and Audrey wanted to go the the Alligator Farm (a cool zoological park near San Augustine) while they were visiting. Miri enjoyed herself, but was kind of hot. She enjoyed getting to hang out with Daddy.
Matthew and Audrey were fascinated by the giant reticulated python; it was 21 feet long. The snake was interested in them too, or maybe it thought they were cute enough to eat!
We tried to get a picture of the kids together, but Miri was having none of it.
